Kids’ Holiday Kitchen: Making Tomorrow’s Memories

This holiday season, The Kroger Family of Grocery Stores partnered with curious culinary creators and YouTube foodie faves, Mythical Kitchen, to whip up some holiday magic. And we’re not just talking about any kind of magic - we also teamed up with 4 kid chefs to turn their craziest food dreams into new holiday traditions. We gave the kid chefs full rein of our holiday pantry, so they could mix and match the most out-of-this world ingredients. Then, they collaborated with the Mythical Kitchen crew to bring their concoctions to life. Finally, the kid chefs shared their new masterpieces with their taste-testing family members to see if they had enough magic to earn a spot on the holiday table. So did these kid chefs create a new holiday tradition that blends things like blue cheese, chocolate sprinkles and potatoes into a main meal? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Meet the Kid Chefs

Bela, Age 12, Seattle, WA

Who eats pizza on Thanksgiving? Sometimes Bela does! This kid chef’s favorite holiday memory is her family coming from near and far to get together for Turkey Day. The best part? They turned their holiday meal into a collaborative cooking activity. Everyone put on their chef hats, created their own pizza dough, and added their own mixture of toppings. Then, everyone got to take a bite of each other’s individual pizza creation. So why does Bela love cooking? Because it’s another form of art where she can express her creativity. Oh, and she gets to eat it afterward.

Jude, Age 10, Orange County, CA

Chef Jude is no novice in the kitchen. He loves putting on his apron because, to him, cooking’s “So immersive. It’s like the world is your oyster.” He especially loves whipping up traditional faves during the holidays. His favorite memory from the kitchen is Hanukkah dinner with his Grandma, Great Grandma and family. They made a smorgasbord of potato latkes, challah bread, brisket and more. So is your mouth watering yet? Jude says that what he really loves about the kitchen is being able to put a smile on people’s faces…and when people tell him how great his cooking is.

Emmy, Age 10, Denver, CO

This kid chef loves all things sugar, pumpkin spice and everything nice. The earliest memory her Grandma, Mary, has of Emmy in the kitchen is her sitting on the countertop baking sugar cookies. Oh, and let’s not forget her favorite activity - licking the mixing beaters! For Emmy, cooking is a family affair. Every year during Easter, Emmy and her Grandma make an Easter bunny cake that they share with the whole family. They also make a zebra cake every year for Christmas Eve. Her fave hobby? Cooking for her family with her dad as her sous chef.

Michael-Christian, Age 12, Atlanta, GA

If you ask this kid chef what he enjoys most about the kitchen, he’ll say, “I love food and I love to cook for my family. It just makes me happy to see other people enjoying something that I love.” Michael-Christian’s love for the kitchen is also a true reflection of his creativity and adventurous side, since he really enjoys whipping up the unknown. Instead of following an original recipe, Michael-Christian likes to open the pantry, see what’s inside and make those ingredients work for him. His fave holiday memory, you ask? Easy. His family’s Christmas Eve cookie baking competition.
