When is Semana Santa?

The Holy Week immediately proceeds Cuaresma (Lent), a 40-day season of prayer and fasting. Starting on Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) and ending on Pascua, Semana Santa is a week-long commemoration of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. Though traditions and celebrations may be different between cultures, this annual observance usually includes city-wide festivals and ceremonies for everyone to participate in. This time is also typically used to deepen personal connections with family and reflect on spiritual messages. Semana Santa 2022, or Holy Week 2022, will begin on Sunday, April 10 and end on Saturday, April 16.
